hallie m. bertling, a.k.a. "hal-the-gal."
hallie ("hal-the-gal" is a childhood nickname) is a native of nowhere (a navy brat born on guam, hence the name which means "contemplating the ocean") and has had adventures everywhere from okinawa to paris, italy to scotland, manhattan to jersey, sierra leone to india, but mostly leads a quiet book-absorbing life in greenville, south carolina.
she graduated from the savannah college of art and design, began illustrating, and has been addicted to painting in vibrantly brilliant gouache ever since that very first materials & techniques class with professor sandoz.
she currently lives in greenville, sc with her artist husband (hint: nathan bertling.com) & ridiculously inspiring collection of books.
find her surrounded by cookie crumbs & rainbow sprinkles wherever you can smell the coffee.
