another colourful year of the crayon box in the.... er, can? paint tin? scissors drawer?

any way you wanna doodle it on your pictionary board, 2023 was a year to remember!

if you missed any of the crayon box fun, you can catch up on previous posts by joining the crayon box (my author-illustrator patreon community) today! then you’ll be sure not to miss any of the sparkling new year’s FUN, either!

(hint: the NEW year starts with HAPPY MAIL from yours truly!) ;)

as in any creative endeavor, the only thing you can really do is KEEP GOING. and we went places this year, fer sure.

which means i have that glittery pixie-dust paper confetti-thowing feeling that 2024 is gonna {lovingly} kick some doors wide open!

here's a QUICK look back at a bit o' the FUN (& a whole lot of sticker happy mail!) we had in the crayon box this year!

if you weren't a crayon box member in 2023, we'd love to have you in 2024 for all the exclusive monthly sticker happy mail, new art pieces, picture book deep-dives, publishing news, and more studio FUN!

some of this year's highlights ....

january 2023:

we started off the new year with this wednesday addams sticker made with ink and book page collage.

& started our very first book club together! six weeks working through julia cameron's WRITE FOR LIFE!

february 2023:

we celebrated my favourite holiday with shiny "porg*icorn" sticker! teehee.

and one of my fave INKY pieces we've done, from isabel ibañez's short story, "rogue enchantments!"

march 2023:

we went to paris!!!

before i left, i mailed you a theodore at the floral market sticker,

and then sent each of you a unique postcard from the city of lights herself! :D

there's more theodore goes to paris merch on my redbubble shop, too!! (more designs you can put on everything from a tote to a tee to a coffee mug, because: duh!) ;)

in line at la poste sending the first batch of parisian postcards to crayon box members!

(yes, i accidentally told the postman i loved him when i meant to say thank you. hint: my second-language impusles are rarely, dare say never, accurate. i still need to THINK before i speak french. oopsie. bahahaha.)

while i shared a few peeks from my paris museum trip sketching sessions in THIS post, this trip was nothing short of STILL INSPIRING. this photo of the paris opera set model above—taken at the musée d’orsay? well, you might recognize the middle of the top curtain-- which became painting reference for this experimental collage/stage piece we made together later in the year for GHOST BUNNY!

GHOST BUNNY process post (fast-forward to september!) found HERE!

[currently working on the full ghost bunny dummy to send to agent(s)!]
